The Open Source Development Surprise
We’ll talk about the surprising ways open source is different from regular 9 to 5 development, the importance of people, technology and teamwork. We’ll go through real open-source changes affecting millions of developers in and see how the people behind them work and how to get involved yourself.
Benjamin is a collaborator of several open source libraries (bluebird, sinonjs, mobx to name a few), node.js core collaborator and developer @ testim.io working on really cool test automation stuff.
Adam Kariv - Fr. 12:45

Adam is a co-founder of Hasadna and the lead of the BudgetKey and other open source projects. He has worked as a consultant for international Open Data organizations and he is a civic tech activist.
* The event is family friendly, we have activities for the little ones, check out the schedule.
We are looking for you
EXPERT WEB DEVELOPERS
EXPERT DATA SCIENTISTS
// NLP in Hebrew
// Web design
The challenges are stand-alone problems, designed for a team of 1-5 members to solve within the weekend. You will be scored for technical elegance and creative interpretation. The challenges are open ended and you are encouraged to come up with extra features and analytical insights.
Municipality Comparator - develop a tool that will compare between municipalities based on socio-economic, geo and demographic parameters of your choice + funding transferred from the state budget. Use BudgetKey API and LAMAS data (details).
Safe roads - analyze traffic accident data and find trends, to identify most dangerous roads and intersections in the city.

Web - create a Leaflet map that plots the bus routes.
Show shape of planed route, stops, other lines that pass at the stop, trip info etc.
D3 - create a beautiful visualization of financial markets data.
The portfolios of institutional investors (pension funds, insurance companies etc who manage our savings) hold a wide variety of assets - from stock, to derivatives to real estate. We want to see what our money is doing.

Data: road accidents, published by למ”ס.
Explore the trends in fatal casualties, and look for explanations.
Explore patterns in accidents related to drivers, interchanges, injured etc.
All of this data stuff needs some servers to run on reliably. If you like talking to servers and debugging weird infrastructure problems this Kubernetes challenge is for you.
Take a Challenge Win a Prize
The projects are on-going, with existing teams that you can join and delve into existing code base. Each project has a list of issues of different complexity levels, from solving bugs to adding features. Projects are a good pick if you can’t stay for the whole weekend, if you find a particular project interesting and if you want to work with a strong team. Or if you’re bored with competitions.
Dynamic map of road accidents based on LAMAS (למ"ס) database, that helps to identify most dangerous roads and spot a faulty infrastructure, as part of our Vision Zero agenda to eliminate fatal accidents.
1.6 trillion shekels of our pension savings are managed by pension funds. Is this money working for us and how does it effect the country's economy? Open Pension provides an insight of pension funds investment policy - for responsible and transparent management.
